Chicken & Waffles are foods that most love, but foods that most would never eat together. Those are the people that are missing out. Loc's does this up right with 4 huge wings and a fresh hot waffle. They have many other things on the menu as well from breakfast staples to burgers and other sandwiches. However, it is the chicken and waffles that will have me coming back for more!

Sushi and some other Japanese stuff
Eaten by

Tried this new Japanese place...well, it is an old place but new for us...for dinner tonight. I had some sushi, a salad and an egg roll. Got the teriyaki chicken for the kid. He loved it. I did eat some of the veggies and maybe 2 pieces of the chicken. It was all white meat, so it was real chicken (I think) and it was good. The sushi was called a "Montgomery Crossroads", named after the street the restaurant is on. It was tuna, crab, and avacado. It was a very good roll that I would gladly get again. The salad with ginger dressing...hard to screw that up (unless they don't drain the lettuce like most Japanese restaurants never do). The eggroll was par for the course as far as egg rolls go. This was split in half for presentation. Not cool and not easy to eat. We will go back to this place.
Meatloaf Dinner at Sweet Potatoes in Savannah

Their meatloaf is one of their everyday menu items and it is covered in a Sweet Potato Glaze. The creamed sweet peas are amazing, but they aren't always on the menu. It is one of those things that you just have to catch them on the right day and you never know when that day is. The other side was just some green beans cooked in bacon. Sure, the meatloaf looks like a giant mess...it is a giant hot mess and soooooooo good.

Veal Sandwich

We went to this place called Toni's Steakhouse. Very limited menu, but they did have this as a lunch special. It is a nice piece of veal, pounded out, breaded, fried, and then served on a fresh bun with cole slaw and fixings. It was good. Not sure if we will go back to there, just because it didn't really offer much of anything.

Breakfast at Sunrise Grill in Augusta

So for starters I ordered the Northern Omelette. This was 3 eggs filled with bacon, onions, peppers, and cheese. This entire plate was full of meh. In the 2nd picture you will see that this place was voted #1 place for Breakfast 5 Years in a Row. Not sure who was voting on this, but based on this meal I would strongly disagree with that comment. I am sure there are plenty out there that like this place, but don't count me as one of them.
Key West Style Cuban Chicken Soft Taco

3 different styles mixed into one meal. Doesn't sound good, but it was. First time I saw the marinade in the store. I figured I would give it a shot and grill up some chicken that had soaked in it. In trying to figure out something different with the chicken I looked in the fridge and came up with the soft taco idea. I fixed up some red beans and rice, along with some corn, to go as sides for this meal. A little melted cheese and some caramelized onion topped off these tacos. Nothing else was needed on these bad boys as they were excellent as is.

Polka Dot Pig Gastro Pub in Augusta

This is a new restaurant in Augusta that has been open for a month. We decided to give it a shot and it was pretty good. We started off with a White Pizza and an order of Duck Empanadas as our apps. The white pizza is fire cooked with 5 different cheeses, fresh basil, and a garlic pesto. The empanadas were filled with duck, roasted black cherries, and crumbles of goat cheese. Both apps were very good and I would gladly eat them both again. For my main course I got the Chipotle Braised Beef Short Ribs with Jalapeno Mac-n-Cheese and Roasted Corn with Green Chilies. The short ribs were perfect. The mac-n-cheese was different and was on fire with every bite. Not really my cup of tea, but it wasn't horrible. Still, I would have been much happier with the old standard mac-n-cheese. All in all, they have a lot of different tastes on the menu and I would gladly go back. Hopefully though they will have things flowing better and get kinks worked out while shaking off the new restaurant rust. They only had 1 high chair for the entire restaurant (not good with as many tables as they have). Also, our apps came out within 10 min of ordering. We didn't get out main dishes for another 45 min. It was worth the wait, but it shouldn't have taken that long.

The Nicest Mellow Mushroom I Have Ever Seen
Eaten by
Phins
Considering this Mellow Mushroom is in a "college town", Statesboro, it has all the feel of a higher class joint. Hardly any of the tree hugging tie dyed hippie junk that normally litters these establishments. Instead it has a very modern decor, plenty of high def TV's, and a very nice fully stocked bar. I have never seen one this nice and probably won't again.
We split a house calzone (minus the spinach) and tied the garlic pretzel sticks, which they said were exclusive for that location. Both were pretty good.

Quickfire Chicken Cacciatore
Eaten by

This is Chicken Cacciatore made on the fly in no time at all. Chicken cutlets are seasoned with garlic, pepper, oregano and basil. They are then browned off in olive oil before being simmered down in the sauce. Normal Chicken Cacciatore has some white wine in it, but not when cooking on the fly for a 2 year old. The sauce can be easily made from scratch, but I took the easy way out and used the best that you can get out of a jar. Classico Caramelized Onion & Roasted Garlic Pasta Sauce, imo, is some of the best stuff you can get out of a jar for on the fly cooking. This was an excellent quick dinner that was done in under 30 min.
