Shrimp Spring Roll

I was trying to think of something while in The Fresh Market to go with the P.F. Chang's General Tsao's Chicken (which I have reviewed before) that I was making for dinner and was drawn to the "Sushi with Gusto" counter.

This is the same fresh sushi counters that are in many grocery stores these days, but it just seems that there is more variety at The Fresh Market. Still, if I could change one thing it would be them being able to make certain rolls upon request (especially if they have everything on hand). I really was wanting a roll like the Montgomery Crossroll, but the guy behind the counter told me he couldn't make it. All he really needed to do was make a California Roll and add tuna. Oh well, that couldn't be done but the Shrimp Spring Roll caught my eye.

The Shrimp Spring Roll is very fresh and refreshing to eat. It is loaded with cucumbers, carrots, lettuce and avacado. It is then rolled up and sealed with a little lemonayse. They then take a cooked shrimp and lay it on top of the roll and wrap everything up in rice paper. It comes with a spicy duck sauce that is the perfect compliment to these rolls. Dipping each bite into this spicy sauce gives it the extra bite and flavor it needs.

Give this roll a shot the next time you pass by the sushi counter in the grocery store. I really think you will like it.

Sushi Time Towa = More Japanese Food

The Japanese food love fest continues and we love Sushi Time Towa on Montgomery Cross Roads here in Savannah. You really can load up there and it doesn't hurt the ole wallet. The wife and I went there for lunch today and split a Spider Roll for starters. I like real sushi and she doesn't...so we compromised on this roll. Soft shell crab, lettuce, cucumber, and mayo fill out this roll. It was pretty good, but I still love the Montgomery Crossroll that I usually get when we go there.

As for the meal itself, I got the Yakiniku Steak with rice and vegetables. This looked and tasted like it was skirt steak and it actually wasn't that bad. It was my first time having this and I would probably order it again. Would have rather this been a ribeye, but the skirt had some good flavor.

Japanese Food

I love me some Japanese food! I especially love me some quick "fast food style" Japanese food. The first 3 pictures are from Hiranos on Habersham here in Savannah. It is a great little place owned and operated by the Hirano family. He works the grill and she is working the front end. Everything is made fresh to order and is always excellent.

The last 2 pictures are from Sakura on Broughton in downtown Savannah. It is a good place to pop in for lunch every now and then, especially with their lunch specials. The 2 rolls for $5.75 is always a good deal in my opinion. The quality might not be the best, but you get what you pay for and with the quick Japanese lunch that is the risk always worth taking.

Sushi and some other Japanese stuff

Tried this new Japanese place...well, it is an old place but new for us...for dinner tonight. I had some sushi, a salad and an egg roll. Got the teriyaki chicken for the kid. He loved it. I did eat some of the veggies and maybe 2 pieces of the chicken. It was all white meat, so it was real chicken (I think) and it was good. The sushi was called a "Montgomery Crossroads", named after the street the restaurant is on. It was tuna, crab, and avacado. It was a very good roll that I would gladly get again. The salad with ginger dressing...hard to screw that up (unless they don't drain the lettuce like most Japanese restaurants never do). The eggroll was par for the course as far as egg rolls go. This was split in half for presentation. Not cool and not easy to eat. We will go back to this place.

Tangerine Fusion & Sushi Bar in Savannah

We had heard good things about this restaurant, but had never given it a shot until today at lunch. Tucked in the back of a strip center, you would never expect a classy joint like this be located there. The staff was excellent, the decor was well done, and the food was outstanding. We started off with Fresh Rolls. This jumbo shrimp, lettuce, rice noodles, cucumber, and cilantro served with a peanut sauce and a side of carrots. This was a perfect refreshing way to start off lunch. We then got a california roll and lobster roll. Both of these didn't disappoint as well. We then finished it off with a chocolate overload cake. Chocolate cake, mousse, fudge, a brownie, and more chocolate sauce, served with some fresh made creme and strawberries. It was super rich and worth every bite. This place just moved to a must to eat at spot here in Savannah for us, along with their sister restaurant "ele".

Saturday night. Sushi night.

This week's super carb meal was sushi. Started things off with cucumber salad. I could probably just eat a massive one of these and go home happy. next we did yellow tail, tuna and salmon and a couple custom rolls. The sushi guy wanted us to try the conch he recently steamed so we got to try some of that too.

TakoSushi in Augusta...

It is here that the Far East meets the Southwest. This is one of our favorite places in Augusta and we ate there last night. We started off with the Crazy Roll as an app. I then got the steak taco special with rice and beans that was outfreakinstanding. This was all washed down with their top shelf margarita. http://www.tako-sushi.com/restaurant.html
