Chiriya's Thai Cuisine in Savannah

Talk about stumbling into a gold mine. Today that happened with lunch when I walked into Chiriya's for the first time and was dead set on a Thai lunch. Scanning over the menu I noticed a nice selection of "traditional" Hawaiian dishes. This caught my attention and I couldn't break it from this section of the menu. One dish stood out to me and that is the Loco Moco. I have placed a video on here for those who have no clue what a Loco Moco is, but is the one thing I thought I would only be able to get in Hawaii, let alone in Savannah. Burger, rice, eggs, gravy...what more could you want?

I was all set on getting the Loco Moco until my eyes caught the "Kalua Pig & Cabbage". The Loco Moco was going to wait until the next visit here because I am going for the pig! This pig is wrapped in banana leaves and is oven cooked (not much ground to bury it in around the restaurant). It is marinated in liquid smoke and sea salt. Then it is served with a huge scoop of cabbage and a side of Jasmine Rice.

This pig was melting in my mouth. It was about as tender as it could get, cooked to perfection, and had a taste unlike any pork I have ever had. It was nice on a cold day to get a little taste of Hawaii.

Be warned though...if you are in a time crunch this might not be the place for you to spend your lunch hour. The food does take a while to prepare and the service could have been a little faster. That being said, the food made up for all that. I am looking forward to going back so I can get my Loco Moco!

Talay Thai Cuisine in Suwanee for lunch (again)

Group of us headed to Talay for lunch today. I can't count the number of time's I've eaten there, which is probably a good thing.

When I originally had Thai, I used to stick with noodle dishes, or the "Pads"...pad thai, pad see-eew. My first 2 or 3 experiences were at Thai Pan Alley in Indian Rocks Beach, FL. My wife's good friend lives down there, got my wife hooked on it as a kid so whenever we went to Clearwater we made the now-nostalgic drive down for Thai.

So, going to Talay so much gave me an opportunity to branch out since I wasn't riding on one shot in Florida. I moved from the noodle dishes to some red curry and other meat and veggie dishes. Today it was tangerine beef. I'm not sure how 'authentic Thai' that is considering Chinese restaurants serve it as well, but it's damn good. Fried beef with a delicious sauce, some dried orange peel and a few thai chilis. (PROTIP: Slice the chilis down the middle and spread the seeds through the dish.)

They have a couple fish tanks in there with these big fish in them. I always wonder if the fish are bored and how much they would appreciate a ship or fake treasure box to swim around.

Spicy Thai Chicken Wrap and Other Healthy Stuff from Evos

Went to Evos for lunch today. They bill themselves as healthy fast food. I had planned on trying their burger but when I got there I discovered that today is "Wrap-it-up Wednesday" so I got a free shake by buying a wrap. They charge a lot for their stuff so free sounded good. The shake is normally $3.49 I think. I should mention that I had a $25 gift card that I had purchased from Half Off Depot for only $10. I don't like paying a lot for stuff so some might call me cheap.

So I went with the Spicy Thai Chicken Wrap (510 calories and 10 grams of fat), Airbaked Fries (230 calories and 8 grams of fat), and a Mango Guava shake (180 calories and 0 grams of fat). The best thing I had was the Airbaked Fries - they have flavored ketchup to go along with them. I had some Garlic Gravity ketchup (35 calories and 0 grams of fat) that was pretty good. So adding all that up I get 955 calories and 18 grams of fat. I guess it's healthier than Dairy Queen, but I better have a salad for supper tonight.
