Costanzo's Jersey Style Pizza

Some of the best pizza in Savannah has gotten better. Costanzo's Pizza is now under new ownership and while many things haven't changed, the quality of the pizza has changed. The ingredients are the same, but the quality control is now in place and it is producing a much better pizza than before. Tonight we went with a large (18") mushroom pizza, with 1 slice of it cheese for our son. This thing was so good, I felt like I could eat about 3 of them.

Costanzo's is Jersey Style pizza and they also offer pizza by the slice. They have a great Monday - Friday lunch special of 2 slices & drink for $5.00. One of the best deals in town for one of the best pizza's in town.

This pizza came from the original Waters Ave location across from Memorial Hospital, but they also have another location further down Waters at Eisenhower. They offer dine in, take out, and delivery services.

Green Truck Neighborhood Pub

This is a new restaurant here in Savannah that offers fresh food with the best in local and organic ingredients. The majority of the menu is their grass fed 100% beef burger selection. I went with the Flathead (burger with sauteed mushrooms, onions, and provolone cheese) and I must say that this was a tasty burger.

Keeping with their theme of fresh, they make their own ketchup at Green Truck. I will admit that I am a Heinz snob. I actually frown on restaurants that use Hunt's products and think that if they are skimping by using Hunt's...what else are they skimping on? The homemade ketchup took a little getting used to, but it worked perfectly on the burger and was a nice compliment for the seasoned fries.

The unknown is now known and I will gladly venture down this road again to try some of the other burgers on the menu.

The Big Kahuna from Jersey Mike's

The plan for lunch yesterday was to hit up Season' of Japan and get a little express Japanese food. We got there and the line was out the door, so we instead went over to Jersey Mike's Subs. They do make a pretty good sandwich over there and the cheesesteak didn't disappoint.

The Big Kahuna has the obvious steak & cheese, but then they add mushrooms, onions, peppers, and jalapenos before finishing it off with a little mayo. This sandwich was dripping with all kinds of goodness and had quite a kick with each bite.

Chicken Finger Spinach Salad with Sweet Vidalia Onion Dressing

Nothing that fancy with this salad: Spinach, mozzarella & provolone cheese, mushrooms, craisins, bacon bits, and some heated up leftover chicken fingers from Publix. I usually like to make my own dressings, but I decided to give this Vidalia Onion dressing a chance and it didn't disappoint. It worked well with the spinach and provided a nice compliment to the chicken.

Ted's Montana Grill

Stopped off for lunch on the drive back from New Orleans at Ted's Montana Grill in Tallahassee (no bank robber with a bomb to stop us today). We started off with the Salt-n-Pepper Onion Rings. These were a perfect way to start the meal, but it would have been great to have a few more than what they dish out for this table serving. For my Bison Burger...I got the Vermejo. This burger is named after Ted's 591,000 acre (yes that number is correct) ranch. It is topped with the usual suspects and some great friends in the form of Monterey Jack Cheese, Grilled Onions, and Grilled Mushrooms. We might have been a few days late in getting to Ted's, but it was worth the wait.

Sunday Night Grilling

The Portobello's were marinated in some balsamic, rosemary, thyme, garlic, pepper, oregano, and basil. They were then grilled up and loaded with crumbled blue cheese, which then was melted to perfection. The chicken was just some more of Nellie & Joe's Mojo marinated chicken. I am addicted to the Nellie & Joe's product line. You can sometimes find it in Publix or Fresh Market, but here is their website: http://www.keylimejuice.com/ Everything was then washed down with plenty of Bell's Brewery Oberon Ale.

College Football Saturday Grub & Dinner

When spending a late Saturday afternoon and evening at home watching college football...it just doesn't get better than boiled peanuts, steak, and beer. I grilled up this beautiful New York Strip Steak with a little seasoning to perfection. I then marinated some Portobello Mushrooms win a little balsamic marinade that I made up. These were also grilled and further basted in the marinade. Everything was amazing and was washed down with some ice cold Hoptober Golden Ale from the New Belgium Brewing Co. This is a football Saturday done right. Now if the Dawgs can just win...

Mellow Mushroom in Statesboro

This is becoming a regular stop for us on our travels between Savannah and Augusta. It really is the nicest looking MM I have ever been in and the menu is different than any other MM as well. We got some garlic cheese bread and half cheese-half mushroom & garlic pizza.

AJ's Dockside in Tybee Island

We decided to head over to Tybee for my birthday dinner tonight. We have heard good things about this place and thought tonight was the perfect opportunity to try it out. The view was amazing and the sun set right in front of us. Perfect way to wind down my birthday. As for the food...Sure, I could have went the with the scored flounder or the blackened Mahi Mahi. But I instead went the conch fritters, fried mushrooms, crab legs and crown & ginger route. This was all topped off with a slice of triple chocolate moose pie. They didn't have any birthday cake on had, so this had to do. Gotta say...it was pretty tasty!

Caramelized Onions & Mushroom Matzo Pizza

This is my World Famous in My House Matzo Pizza. I caramelized some onions that became part of the base for the sauce for the pizza. The sauce was a fire roasted tomato and garlic sauce. You don't get thin crust pizza kosher for Passover any better than this. The onions were layered on top of the sauce, under the cheese. Baby bellas were broken up and placed on top. The plain cheese was for Brice. Later this week I might do some basil and tomato pizza's or spinach, mushroom and feta.

Dinner...we ate it...there is none left!

Tonight I took Sweet Peru Onions and roasted them with some mushrooms. No matter what you hear, these Peru Onions are actually sweeter than Vidalia onions. The people in Vidalia even told me that, but they hate to admit it. Anyway...Cut the onion in half and sprinkle with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, cracked black pepper, oregano, salt, and garlic powder. Bake at 350 for 1 hour closed in tin foil and then open up for the last 15 min. The first pic is after prep and before it went into the oven. The second pic is after it came out of the oven. I then made some wild mushroom couscous, which became the bottom layer on the plate for the grilled pesto chicken. The roasted mushrooms were layered around the chicken and on top of the couscous as seen in the third picture. The final product had a little feta on top of the chicken. Everything was outf'nstanding!
