Thanksgiving Dinner

Ate lots...drank more.

The Crepevine in Tallahassee, FL

How did we end up @thecrepevine? What was supposed to be lunch at Ted's Montana Grill turned out to be lunch in downtown Tallahassee thanks to a bank robber and a bomb hoax. On our way to New Orleans from Savannah we stopped for lunch in Tallahassee. During this trek we got roped into a section of the city that was locked down and traffic at a standstill thanks to a guy who was holding up a bank and said he had a few bombs strapped to his body. Well 90 min later we were able to get rerouted out of this traffic and stumbled onto this great place before we got out of town.

The Crepevine (nice play on words)makes crepes fresh to order and then fills them with all kinds of goodness for all meals of the day (including desserts). Think wraps but so much better. The Wobbler was a great one to have for lunch. Fresh chicken, spinach, mushrooms, onions....just all kinds of awesome places inside the crepe. However, the one we had for dessert was one of the best things I have ever eaten.

This dessert crepe was filled with fresh whipped cream and strawberries. It was then topped with chocolate syrup and nutella. OMFG...this thing was off the charts ridonkulous!

If you are ever stranded in Tallahassee, or just passing through, you must eat at The Crepevine.

Smoked fish dip

Went fishing a few weeks ago and caught some mackerel. Smoked/grilled it and put a few pieces into this fish dip. I started with this recipe but tweaked it a bit to my standards. It wasn't as good as some fish dips I've had in beach restaurants, but a damn fine first effort.

Late Breakfast at Goldberg's

A must for us every trip to Atlanta. Maybe the best thing there is something you don't even have to order. The Kosher Pickles on every table are just so addictive. You can't eat just one. As for the meal, we got some whitefish salad and everything bagels with lox spread and tomatoes.

Camping Grub...

Just a sampling of some of the good food we ate while camping in Stone Mountain this past week. The dessert is called "fried dough". Go figure. It was pieces of bread dough that are fried, brushed with butter, and topped with with powdered sugar and cinnamon. The pork butt was smoked all day long on a Big Green Egg and was absolute perfection. Also pictured are the fajitas we cooked one night and breakfast we whipped up another morning.

Dinner at Firefly Cafe in Savannah

Firefly Cafe is a great little restaurant in downtown Savannah on Habersham. This dinner started off with some champagne mixed with a splash of Pomegranate juice. Some warm rolls came out and are served with some garlic, parmesan, black pepper, and olive oil to dip the bread into. Nice way to start the meal which was grilled chicken topped with a vegetable salsa. The chicken was sitting on a huge piece of fried polenta. For dessert we got the Lemonchello. It was very similar to a lemon gellato with some frozen creme on top of it. It was almost like having a frozen lemon meringue with each bite. I highly recommend checking them out for lunch or dinner. You won't be disappointed.

Lunch at Caraway Cafe

I have eaten at @carawaydowntown, but had no clue that there was a location up on Paulson here in Savannah. I tried the Grilled Lime Chicken Wrap and it was very good. This was filled with chicken, black beans, corn, cheddar cheese, and peppers. I am very glad that I found these guys on this side of town. Lunch there never disappoints!

Don's Famous Lexington NC Style Bar-B-Q...

I happened to stumble upon this little place in Pooler, GA. They have pretty much everything on the menu that you would expect from an old fashioned mom and pop eatery. Hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, grilled cheese, chicken, etc...but their specialty is their bar-b-q. I gave the chopped pork a try and it was decent. The vinegar based sauce was very good and was very different than any other vinegar based sauce I have had.

Savannah Jewish Food Festival

This was just a small sampling off the foods at the 2010 Shalom Y'all Jewish Food Festival. Pictured are Potato Latkes with Applesauce and Sour Cream, Everything Bagel with Whitefish Salad, Cheese Blintzes with Strawberries & Sour Cream, and a real old fashioned Egg Creme. The Egg Creme is made with Ubets Chocolate Syrup and milk. That is mixed well and then the seltzer is stirred in to create this wonderful creme soda style drink.
