The Wreck at The Salty Dog Cafe, Hilton Head Island

Nice night out at South Beach with the family. I got the Lobster Flatbread which was garlic butter, artichoke hearts, lobster meat, and mozzarella cheese dusted with spices and baked over crispy flatbread. It was pretty decent and I washed it down with a Long Island Iced Tea. You will also see the view from our table on the outer deck.

Oreo shake from Rush's...

When in Columbia, SC and you want a real ice cream shake, there is only 1 place to go. Actually there are a lot of places to go, but there is only one place to go for the best! That place is Rush's! I made a pitstop yesterday on my way home just for a Rush's shake. Got an Oreo shake for the first time ever and it was perfection in a paper cup. Chocolate is still the best, but this ranks right up there with it.

Rico's World Kitchen

I went to Rico's for dinner tonight and it was fantastic as always!

Blueberry & Chocolate Chip Pancakes

Family was in town and so I made breakfast for everyone. Pancakes were what they wanted, so that is what they got. What you see are some of the fresh blueberry pancakes and the super sweet chocolate chip pancakes. Both were big hits. I also make some plain buttermilk ones for the boring people that can't handle a burst of flavor in their mouths.

The Best Burger I Never Ate...

That is right...I never ate it. We went to Cheedar's for dinner tonight. Kid was wanting to eat it and eat it he did. Every bite except for one tine bite. I did get to eat a couple of onion rings and I did enjoy the Fat Tire.

BBQ at The Smoke Station

Got me some pulled pork with a little cole slaw and mac-n-cheese. We also got some fried pickle. These were sick, and sick in a good way! But the story of the night was this little kitten we saw in the "garden" outside the front door of the restaurant.

Hibachi Steak Dinner

This is from Season's of Japan Express in Savannah. It is pretty decent for "fast food" Japanese food. Some cut of beef with mushrooms, a side of their tasty vegetables, and a mound of rice. A little shrimp sauce and a little ginger sauce made this meal edible.

Battle of the Chicken Biscuits

The other day I had the Cajun Filet Biscuit from Bojangles and this morning had the Southern Style Chicken Biscuit from McDonald's. Hands down, and it isn't even close, Bojangles wins every single time!

Bacon Ice Cream?!

I had a wild hair and decided to make some bacon ice cream. Pecan Praline Candied Bacon Ice Cream to be exact. Candied the bacon in the oven with some brown sugar and crumbled it into an ice cream custard base with pecan praline liqueur and a dash of liquid smoke added for flavor. It was fantastic.

Cookout on the water...

Cookout at a friends house and this was my tasty burger. Caramelized onions, spicy mustard, mayo, lettuce and tomato on a giant onion roll. Sat on the back porch to eat this great burger and the view was simply perfect. Doesn't get much better than this.

Sandfly BBQ

Just some good ole pulled pork, mac-n-cheese and potato salad.

Breakfast for Dinner

Picked up a fresh out of the oven Raisin Challah from Publix this morning. Tonight I decided to make some good ole fashioned French Toast out of this perfect bread. Challah is the best bread in the world for making French Toast. The fact that it has raisins in it only makes it that much better. But then to eat if for dinner...amazing.

It is like taking the Mona Lisa and giving her a face lift. Then you step back and decide to give her a boob job and then you call it a day. Yeah...I took perfection and made it better, just like that!

bacon. just bacon.

Had some bacon today at about 3:30pm. Nothing with it. Just bacon. While it was cooling I got to thinkin about why bacon became such a 'hip' meat. People treat it like the jagermeister of the meat world. It's funny to joke about and dig on sometimes but everyone 'knows' it's awful for you which really just helps play up on the joke. In reality it's tasty and a nice treat any time of the day. Just like jager.

I make ugly salads

I don't do well at salad bars, not in a visually appealing way at least. My home salads are much artsier. I guess this could be art too, but some of that raw unpolished art that only really rich pretentious people 'get'. Perhaps I'll open a salad joint in New York with a number or a one syllable word for the name and make ugly salads. People will be like OMFG these are so genius and they are delicious. They will be genius because I will charge $25/salad or $35 if you want the salad sampler platter. They will be delicious because I will have a regular old salad bar a la Sweet Tomato, Lettuce Souprise you, etc in the back. We will put a massive amount of cheese and dressing on everything. Some people will hate. But let em do it. Others will appreciate the rich cheesey ranch soup garnished with bits of baby spinach and cucumber floaters.

ribeye

a poorly lit, yet tasty, ribeye from Longhorn's covered in butter.

Steez goes bahn mi now.

I've heard a lot of talk about bahn mi lately also so I gathered a group of people from the office and went ti Lee's Pho in Duluth, GA and went out on a Bahn Mi adventure.

The sandwiches were really cheap. $3 each. Lee had a $5 limit on debit/credit transactions so I bought 2. That probably worked out for the best. I got the combination (sliced port, pate, and something else I can't remember) and BBQ pork. I think all the different textures in the combination one threw me for a bit of a loop, crunchy vegetables and meat then soft pate. It was good but an experience. Comparatively speaking, the BBQ pork was a safer choice. It was very good. I wasn't a fan of the radishes all over them, but I think that's just a matter of personal taste.

Another IJAT poster, Jtruelove, went also. She got the BBQ pork and eggrolls (pictured). She gets cool points for sharing. Those were damn tasty.

burger corn sweet potato fries

Wife made a nice lil dinner few nights ago. These were some local grass fed burgers we tried our hardest to ruin by putting them on shitty tasting buns. (I had one sans bun for lunch the next day and it had way more swagger).

sorta disclaimer: this is actually my wifes plate. She was impressed with how it looked so she pic'd it. I didn't have any corn because I could take or leave corn unless it's some fire roasted stuff or rolled in mayo and whatever the hell else mexicans roll their corn in.

Tangerine Fusion & Sushi Bar in Savannah

We had heard good things about this restaurant, but had never given it a shot until today at lunch. Tucked in the back of a strip center, you would never expect a classy joint like this be located there. The staff was excellent, the decor was well done, and the food was outstanding. We started off with Fresh Rolls. This jumbo shrimp, lettuce, rice noodles, cucumber, and cilantro served with a peanut sauce and a side of carrots. This was a perfect refreshing way to start off lunch. We then got a california roll and lobster roll. Both of these didn't disappoint as well. We then finished it off with a chocolate overload cake. Chocolate cake, mousse, fudge, a brownie, and more chocolate sauce, served with some fresh made creme and strawberries. It was super rich and worth every bite. This place just moved to a must to eat at spot here in Savannah for us, along with their sister restaurant "ele".

BBQ Pork Bahn Mi

My first time ever eating a Bahn Mi and I have to say, that was a pretty darn good sandwich. Spicy, fresh, and healthy. Can't go wrong with this one. Fresh jalapeno's, cilantro, carrots, and onions on top of BBQ pork and placed on a fresh baked sourdough roll. You got to eat it with the spicy red sauce...and lots of it. Stuff is like the devil spitting fire onto the sandwich and I loved every drop of that saliva!

Cheap pizza at the pool

Washing it down with some heinrken and bud light lime. Not my choices but the best kind of beer is the cold free kind.

Bacon & Spinach Quiche

Wife made this last night. I had some for breakfast too. Bacon, spinach, shrooms and cheese.

I thought I invented quiche one time. Said it would be great to have a pie that was savory instead of sweet and had eggs, cheese, meat. Then my wife said "you mean quiche?".

Bacon, Lettuce and Fried Green Tomatoes on Ciabatta Bread and topped with a chipotle remoulade. Came with a side of home made onion rings.
